STAY WOKED UP. RESIST, resist, resist, resist

by B.L. in Other 0 comments
As a writer, I couldn’t let President-elect Trump’s 2016 inauguration pass without comment and so I posed this question to all of us. When will we working Americans get “woke up” to the fact that Trump’s Cabinet represents the final end game for the very wealthy? We will soon see Trump’s wealthy cabinet taking over public arenas we once thought safe from harm. His people will privatize, privatize and privatize some more so their fellow 1 percenters & billionaires can make even more money than they can ever possibly spend. Trust me, they won’t spend their ill-gotten gains either. Instead, Trump’s cronies will put their loot into offshore accounts to keep it safe for their heirs just as their ancestors did for them. It will the biggest transfer of wealth from the middle class, working poor and the poor to the 1% that we have ever seen. Trump’s cabinet is set to gut all programs that average, God-fearing Americans need to survive including government programs in intel, agriculture, energy, defense, education, labor and health & human services. Why else would he select unproven billionaires/millionaires for these positions? Being wealthy but unproven isn’t enough to successfully run a country and especially […]

LET’S CELEBRATE WOMEN

by B.L. in Other 0 comments
When I started thinking about celebrating Women’s History Month and how to write a little something-something, I went on the internet to good old Google. I used other sources like cable, the radio, Y-tube, LinkedIn and Pinterest too. I started saving articles from the magazines and newspapers I read. Then I sorted through my book collection looking for books about women. I guess I’m old school because I still read newspapers and magazines. My book selection includes both the hardcover and paperback versions. Before long, I had amassed a collection of information about women that any researcher worth her weight in gold would love. And that was my problem. Too much information. Great if I was writing a thesis but way too much for a one-page post. Like most writers I love words. Whether they are my words or somebody else’s, I love ‘em like I birthed them. It’s difficult for me eliminate them entirely as good editing requires. It wasn’t long before I realized writing this article was becoming a nightmare for me. Then I did what I usually do and waited for inspiration to help me. When that didn’t work, I did the other thing I usually do […]

THE JUDGE2: A hitman sneaks into town to hide and leaves the same way.

by B.L. in Other 0 comments
It’s been fifteen months since the unsuccessful attempt on Judge Gideon Updike’s life. A visiting State Trooper, Merle Anglin, partners with small town Sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant Wilhelmina Bonds to uncover a murder mystery. The two women are clearing out a retired doctor’s files and discover a murder confession from Dexter, a bragging patient who happens to be a hitman for a deadly organization. State Trooper Anglin and Sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant Bonds decide to investigate the murder confession during their off-duty hours. They discover that one of Dexter’s victims was an undercover cop, Detective Humphreys, the late wife of their artist friend Evangeline Updike-Humphreys. The two women’s unofficial investigation sets off a firestorm of deadly consequences. Can they head off Dexter’s next hit before it hits too close to home? Find out in The Judge2: A hitman sneaks into town to hide and leaves the same way. It’s available for pre-order 2/19/26 on Kindle and Smashwords. The release date is 3/02/26. WHY I WROTE: The Queen’s Secrets, A family full of them!

by B.L. in Other 0 comments
I believe in my dreams. I have had enough of them over the years, to hope they come true. I guess I could claim most of my dreams since I retired, have come true. I always wanted to live long enough after I retired to write all the books in my head. I wanted to bring them to life. What I mean by that is, I dream sometimes the romance books that I write. I have theses scenes in my head. When I wake, I try to write down what I remember of my dreams. If I am lucky, I can write all that I remember. If I am doubly lucky, I have the dreams in a proper series. That means I dream parts one, two, three, four, five, six and so on in order. Lately I’ve noticed this happens whenever I have trouble resolving some situation in my book and on paper. That’s when I work on the situation in my dreams. I admit it might take me weeks of dreams to resolve the situation in my books, but somehow it does get resolved. I would not have this dream writing thing any other way. For all you dreamers, […]

HISTORY & WHO TELLS IT

by B.L. in Other 0 comments
The picture above was taken in 2015 around Thanksgiving. The shadows you see are my mother and me. We’re watching what’s left of our home being torn down. It’s a complete surprise to us. We both thought when she sold it to a nice young white couple for a great deal less than she imagined, the house … our house would be there forever. It just wouldn’t belong to us any longer. Two other unique houses built by the first Black families to live in this township, just outside of Akron, Ohio, were gone too. My home and my history as well as the homes and histories of the two other Black doctors had been torn down and buried in the in the grassy earth. Permit me to explain by going a bit backwards. My mother sold our home eight years ago in 2010. She’d been trying to sell the ranch-style home for years. She couldn’t get the asking price for it. Since the area my mother lived in had been zoned for commercial as well as residential use, she thought it would be easier to sell her house. Unfortunately for my mother, Ohio was one of those states that […]

WADE IN THE WATERS

by B.L. in Other 0 comments
I’m not one for religious symbolism but the more I hear about foreign involvement in our democratic election system, I keep thinking of a song I used to hear in church Sunday mornings. I was a kid back then. Everybody knows baby boomer as kids couldn’t say. “Mom, Dad I’m not going to church. It’s Sunday morning. I think I just sit this visit out. I don’t like how that old guy wearing that long robe talks to us. He’s always screaming about devils and doing bad stuff from that platform he stands on. You and Dad might like him but he scares the mess out of me. Today, I’ll just sit home and do something that makes me happy. Watching Sunday morning cartoons makes me happy so I’ll be doing that today, okay? I’ll see you both when you get back from church if I’m not napping, right?” No way was that conversation going to fly with my parents back then. In fact, the only thing flying would be my butt into next week. That would be after I was released from the children’s ward of the hospital where my father’s opened can of whup ass sent me. So […]

The Queen’s Secrets, A family full of them!

by B.L. in Other 0 comments
The Queen’s Secrets: a family full of them: It’s a story about a magical land called Cashmeria and one of the families who lived there. The current ruler of the largest country Phanon is Queen Winnifred. She is the only female ruler of the five states. Queen Winnifred is a tough woman who can fight, hunt and track good as any man. She trained two daughters to be just like her. She is also a greedy woman who loves power and expansion. She believes the more land a country has, the stronger that country was. Or the more land a country could grab or steal, the safer and stronger that country was. Queen Winnifred is constantly at war trying to expand, grabbing more and more land from neighbors who hated her. Neighboring country-states were sick of Winnifred’s invasions, mini-land grabs. Most of all they were sick of wars with her. War were costly in both lives and money. They unite against her and try to kill her and take all her lands. The Queen’s Secrets, A family full of them!
