WHY I WROTE: SANTA BABY, Two studs & baby makes three

I’ve always liked the movie Three Men & A Baby. The premise of the movie is this. Three handsome single womanizing men who are confirmed bachelors find a baby girl left on their doorstep. The men are thrown into a tizzy. They don’t know which one of them is father or if one of them is the father. They don’t know how to change a diaper let alone how feed and care for a baby girl who can’t walk or talk yet. Each man learns what the baby girl’s cries mean. They must learn how to change diapers. How to feed her. How to bath her. How to buy and dress her in baby clothes. And how to entertain the baby girl and stop her cries. By the time the mother returns to claim the child, all three men don’t want the little girl to leave. They have fallen in love with the little girl. They want to raise her as their own child. In Book 8 of the Forever Woman series, normally cool, calm, and collected Percy Burnette is in trouble. Her life is falling apart. 104 YEARS OLD. She’s over a century.

I don’t normally do five essays in a month. I also don’t dedicate any of them to somebody, either. This month, I decided to change what I normally do and make an exception. I wrote this four years ago to celebrate my mother’s birthday. Now I’m sending it I out again because my mother went home four days ago at the age of 104 and I wanted to celebrate her life. She didn’t do Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook Instagram or Snapchat so she’d never read this tribute. I thought I should do something special online for her, sort of a permanent digital record that she existed on this earth for the last 104 years. I read somewhere that the number of folks over 100 isn’t so rare nowadays and the number of centenarians is increasing. Try as I might, I can’t imagine what she’s seen during her lifetime. I know she missed WWI but lived through the depression. She spoke about how she and my aunt sold bread and cookies from a wagon. My stepfather lost a janitor job during the depression but tried to make up for it by setting a home bakery because he loved to bake. My mother […]

LOVER’S DAY RANT

Contacting Sam, our marriage counselor, was something I felt I had to do. I figured I should speak with him because I needed to know if Gilbert directly or indirectly mentioned his assault plans during any of his one-on-sessions with Sam. Gil had stopped attending our joint and his individual sessions with Sam, two weeks before the assault. I figured Sam owed me the truth because I was still his patient, while Gil wasn’t so I called him. He claimed that he couldn’t betray Gil’s confidence to confirm or deny my suspicions. I stopped attending his sessions after that phone call. I missed Gil at night when I was feeling particularly lonesome and didn’t have a warm body to snuggle against. I shared a ten-year history with the man but it was certainly over now. Gilbert saw to that the minute he let his fists do the talking for his heart.
