In 2006, I decided to write this book about a woman, a police officer who has a case that haunts her. She’s trying to find a missing teenager. At the time I started writing the story, I hadn’t envisioned a serial set of chapbooks. I thought my story would be about a NYPD lieutenant and her partner searching the countryside in the hope of finding a female runaway alive and unhurt.
A second one of my characters is also a runaway. Taylor Cobb is hitchhiking to the city. She’s heading for the city to get away from everything. She feels guilty about her lover’s, Sunny York’s murder. She thinks she could have and should have prevented it. She knows her classmates hate her because she likes girls and she dared to testify against pedophile Jack Donaldson. She thinks her mother hates her for the same reason. On road she accepts a ride and gets kidnapped. She is forced into a sex ring along with other much younger girls and she becomes their protector.
Two other characters are police officers, former lieutenant Lauren Parker. She feels guilty she couldn’t prevent Sunny York’s death. So guilty about Sunny York’s death, she loses her mind. A single moment of too much anger and extremely bad judgement, results in the loss of her gun, her badge and her seventeen years’ worth of keeping the peace in the city. Jobless now, she’s determined to find Taylor Cobb and bring her home to her ailing mother.
Her loyal partner, now retired Sergeant Reggie Hawkins joins her in this last mission: to find Taylor Cobb before she suffers the same deadly fate as Sunny York. Their search begins in upstate New York where Taylor lives. The search takes them along the I-95
corridor to New York City and New Jersey then heading southwest and ends in New Mexico. Along the way, the two former officers undergo as many changes as the runaway victims of the sex ring.
By the time I finished writing this story, I had written four serials. I named the chapbooks after a main characters in each story. The result is Chapbook4: Lauren’s Quartet of Love: Taylor. I do hope you like the results.
