Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a do-over in life? I mean you did something you regret doing or something you didn’t do and feel you should have. Then you wondered how your life would be now, taking the opposite course or going in the opposite direction? How would your life be different if that change had taken place? I wondered what the change would look like. I decided to examine that very change.
Suppose you were married with children, well with one child who was your baby. You want only the best for your child. That’s exactly what you gave your child. You had plenty of money and you spoiled her rotten. You could definitely afford to give her the best home in the best neighborhood. She had a wonderful wardrobe that was updated to the latest fashion trend. She attended excellent schools. New cars to drive and people to drive her wherever she wanted to go.
Before you knew it, your daughter grew up. She learned to say no. The biggest no she told you when you asked her not to be gay. And to leave the young woman you caught her with or else. When she refused to do as you ordered, you went behind her back with another plan. You searched until you found the young woman she was with and you threatened her. The young woman listened to you and disappeared that very night.
For years and years when your daughter asked if you knew what happened to her ladylove, you lied. You told your daughter you had no idea what she was talking about. You denied even knowing the woman your daughter mentioned. Your daughter finally accepted your version of the truth. She moved out of your home to make a life for herself. The life she made, didn’t include you in it anymore. She married a woman that you disapproved. They had children together. You saw your grandchildren once or twice before your daughter didn’t like something you said and never let you see them again.
Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse, your wife grew very sick and finally died of cancer. Her final words to you. “Unless you want to die alone, make peace with your daughter. Accept her lifestyle and make peace with her.”
Now can you see why a do-over is necessary? Your life is quickly going to crap in a handbasket. That’s why I wrote The Judge, finally breaks down and tells the truth! which is part of the Old Smithtown North Mysteries Series.
