Suppose you and some friends were invited to attended a cleanout party. The purpose cleanout party was to help another friend clean out the third floor of her home. The third floor contained old medical records, files and recordings leftover from the retired doctor who owned the home before your friend, another doctor, bought his practice and his home. The former owner built an extension for his clinic which was attached to the first floor of his home. At one time, his practice was located on the first floor of his home. As his practice grew, he needed more space and built the extension which became his clinic. He continued to store records and files and recordings on the vacant third of his home.
You and your friends are determined to sort through all the records. Before they destroy old patient records, they want to make sure none of them pertained to the current doctor’s patients. In searching for current patient records, your friend listens to tape recordings from the old doctor, who sometimes records information he meant to put into written records later.
Since you and your friend are both in law enforcement, she asks you to listen to tape and see what you think. You realized the doctor is recording a patient who confesses to being a hitman who murders people. You and your friend decide to start an unofficial investigation. What could go wrong since it’s just a tiny investigation with just you, your friend and one more person. You and your friends have no idea what asking your questions will stir up. Especially among the folks, who recently hired the hitman to kill a police officer and then a judge. You and your friends don’t realize how determined the group who hired the hitman want to hide what they’ve done. They will kill anybody who tries to shed light on the group and their murderous behavior. The group has made you and your friends the primary target now. You have no idea how high up the law enforcement career ladder this murderous coverup goes. What do you do next?
I wanted to solve this mystery. It’s why I wrote my novel, which is part of the Old Smithtown North Mysteries Series.
